Ten years of completed projects. Satisfied clients. Quality work. And three Google reviews, the last one left five years ago. This is one of the most common patterns we see in local service businesses: real-world credibility that Google has no way of knowing about. Here’s everything this Fort Myers general contractor needs to fix.
The Review Problem Is a Systems Problem
Three reviews in ten years isn’t a reputation problem. It’s a process problem.
A contractor who has been operating for a decade has worked with dozens, probably hundreds of clients. The overwhelming majority of them were satisfied. None of them were asked for a review in a systematic way, and so none of them left one.
This is one of the highest-leverage fixes any local business can make. Build a simple follow-up system that automatically sends a review request after every completed job. Text, email, it doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs to exist and run every single time without relying on someone remembering to do it manually.
A business with ten years of history should realistically be sitting at 100 or more reviews. That gap between where they are and where they could be represents a significant amount of Map Pack ranking potential sitting unused.
A GBP That Tells Google Nothing
The Google Business Profile for this company was nearly empty. One photo. A business description that didn’t mention Fort Myers, didn’t name specific services, and didn’t give Google the geographic signal it needs to rank a local business.
Google uses the GBP description as a relevance signal. It’s reading for keywords that match local search queries. A vague description that doesn’t include the city, the service category, or the type of work performed gives Google nothing to work with.
The description should clearly state what the business does, where it does it, and who they are. For a Fort Myers general contractor, that means mentioning general contracting, Fort Myers, and the specific types of projects they handle. Written naturally, not stuffed awkwardly, but present and explicit.
Photos matter too. One photo on a GBP profile signals a business that either just opened or isn’t paying attention. This contractor has completed years of projects with great photos sitting on their website. Those same images should be on the GBP, added consistently and regularly.
The Website Has Three Separate Issues
Special characters in the title tag. The title tag had symbols and formatting that don’t belong there. A title tag should be plain, clear text that states what you do, where you do it, and who you are. For this company: “General Contractor Fort Myers — Olsson Construction.” Nothing else.
313 words across the entire site. Google needs content to understand what a business does and where it operates. 313 words is not enough to rank for anything competitive. Each service and each location needs dedicated content that explains what the work involves, who it’s for, and where it’s performed. The homepage alone should have 600 to 800 words minimum.
Combined services and gallery page. The site had services and a photo gallery merged into one page. These should be separate. A dedicated services page can rank for service-related searches. A dedicated gallery page can demonstrate credibility without cluttering the page that needs to convert visitors into leads. Split them.
The Structural Fix: One Page Per Service, One Page Per Area
The site listed service areas and services, but neither had its own page. Every service area this contractor works in should have a dedicated page. Every service they offer should have a dedicated page. Each one is a separate ranking opportunity and a separate signal to Google that the business operates in that location and performs that type of work.
This is the most time-consuming part of the fix, but it compounds the fastest. Each page added is a new door into the website from search.
